Thirty Nellore bulls, averaging 330 kg and 20 months of age, were used to obtain the prediction equations of body chemical composition, from the chemical composition of section HH (Hankins and Howe). After a period of adaptation of 40 days, five animals were slaughtered as reference to estimate the empty body weight and the initial body composition of the 25 animals remaining, that were allotted to five treatments with different dietary levels of concentrate in the dry matter (25.0, 37.5, […]

The objective of this study was to evaluate milk yield and some physico-chemical characteristics of milk from Mediterranean buffalo cows raised in western São Paulo. A total of 1438 observations was collected from 152 lactations that occurred from 1985 to 1995, at the Experimental Station of Andradina. The data were analyzed by means of the GLM procedure of SAS. The statistical model for milk production had month and lactation as fixed effects. The model for chemical constituents included milk yield […]

Thirty-nine crossbreed Holstein-Gyr steers were used aiming to evaluate the influence of compensatory growth on body content and on net and dietary requirements of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, and potassium of bovines. Thirty animals were submitted to a high pasture stocking rate, while nine had free access to the pasture (continuous growth group), during 114 days. After that, six animals from the first group and three from the second group were slaughtered, and the remaining animals were feedlot confined. From […]

The dry matter (DMD), organic matter (OMD) and gross energy digestibility (GED) and the total digestible nutrient (TDN) of the total ration were evaluated. The ration was composed by 44.3% of Brachiaria hay, 55% of concentrate and 0.7% of mineral mixture, supplied to different genetic groups (Gyr, Nellore, Guzerat, Santa Gertrudis and Caracu), using total collection of feces and the internal marker (lignin in acid detergent – ADL) as the digestibility techniques. The data were analyzed in a completely randomized […]

The effect of diets content 50% of corn silage and 50% of concentrate, resultant of combination of starch sources of high degradability (dried cassava hulls) and low degradability (corn), with nitrogen sources of high degradability (yeast) and low degradability (cottonseed meal and meat and bone meal), on pH, ammonia and microbial efficiency, was evaluated. Four Holstein steers (334 kg), fitted with ruminal and duodenal cannulas, in a 4 x 4 Latin Square experimental design were used. Intake was limited to […]

Total and partial digestibility of diets combining the starch sources of high degradability (dried cassava hulls) and low degradability (corn), with nitrogen sources of high (yeast) and low (cottonseed meal and meat and bone meal) degradability, in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement, were evaluated. Four Holstein steers (334 kg) fitted with ruminal and duodenal cannulas, in a 4 x 4 Latin Square were used. Chromic oxide was used as a marker for drying matter flow. Interactions of starch and […]

This work was carried out to compile data of two experiments (I and II) of energy and protein requirements, to enlarge the available information on nutritional requirements of bovine in national level. In the experiment I, 30 Nellore bulls were used and in the experiment II, 29 F1 Simental x Nellore bulls were used. In the both experiments, the animals were fed diets with 25, 37.5, 50, 62.5, and 75% of concentrate. The methodologies and the procedures were standardized and […]

The objective of this research was to estimate the intestinal digestibility of rumen-undegradable protein (RUDP) by a three-steps procedure. The evaluated feeds were the soybean meal, cottonseed meal, wheat middlings, corn meal, corn gluten meal, whole raw soybean, whole raw cottonseed, fishmeal, meat meal and blood meal. Firstly, the feeds were incubated in rumen during 16 hours to determine the rumen-undegradable protein, the residue was incubated with pepsin solution during 1 hour, and pancreatic solution during 24 hours at 380C, […]

The research aimed to analyze the effects of feed restriction prior to the confinement on growth and chemical composition of the tissues and organs in cattle. Twenty-four Holstein-Gyr crossbred steers, with 19,3 ± 5,1 months of age and 202,1 ± 49,1 kg LW, at beginning of the trial were used. Fifteen of the animals were confined after a 104-day period of forage restriction, in which it was intended to keep body weight unchanged (compensatory gain group), while nine of them […]

The research aimed to analyze the effects of feed restriction prior to confinement on growth and chemical composition of the carcass and carcass components in cattle. Twenty-four Holstein-Gyr crossbred steers, with 19,3 ± 5,1 months of age and 202,1 ± 49,1 kg LW, at the beginning of the trial were used. Fifteen animals were confined after a 104-day period of forage restriction, in which it was intended to keep body weight unchanged (compensatory gain group), while nine of them had […]
