The objective of this experiment was to evaluated the effect of additives on the quality and nutritive value of silages made with pejibaye palm by-product, according to the following treatments: T1 – Control (without additive); T2 – Addition of 2.5% of sugar; T3 – Addition of 10.0% of citric pulp and T4 – Addition of 10.0% of ground corn, based on natural matter. The use of 10.0% of citric pulp (CP) or ground corn (GC) increased dry matter content of […]

The effects of concentrate supplementation of steers during the rainny season on the performance and physical and traits of the carcass were evaluated. Fourty nine crossbreds steers were used, maintained on pastures of Brachiaria decumbens. The experiment was carried out in three experimental periods, according to a complete randomized design. The following supplements were daily fed at 10 a.m.: mineral salt (SALT), corn and soybean meal based supplements, with 20% CP, at the levels of 1.0 and 2.0 kg (CSBM1 […]

It was evaluated the caffeine contents of caffeine, tannins, lignin and silica in the hull and pulp of coffee of cultivars Catuaí, Rubi, Mundo Novo. Pulp was obtained by moist pulping in a mechanical pulper and dried in the sun adjusted to 13% moisture. Materials were stored in raffia bag in environment free of moisture and ventilated with samplings every 90 days. The quadratic effect shown increased caffeine content along 360 day storage, this increase was of 11,7% along 12 […]

The objective of this research was to evaluate the effects of two experimental periods and two forage levels in the diet on the total and parcial apparent digestibility of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), gross energy (GE) and starch. Four Holstein steers, averaging two years old and 340 kg of body weight, ruminally and duodenally cannulated, were used. The experimental design was a 4 x 4 latin square […]

To evaluate the intake, nutrients apparent digestibilities and nitrogen balance of corn silage, alfalfa and coastcross bermudagrass hays a digestibility trial with sheep was conducted. Fifteen crossbred castrated sheeps, with average live weigth 47.5 kg, were used in a randomized blocks design with four repplicates. The dry matter intake, in g/kg0.75, was influenced by feed and the higher value (68.06) was observed in animals fed with alfalfa hay. The ether extract and neutral detergent fiber intakes were smaller for animals […]

Thirty Nellore bulls, averaging 20 months of age and 330 kg, were used to evaluate the effects of concentrate inclusion on the liquid and dietary requirements of calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg) and potassium (K). After a period of adaptation (40 days), five animals were slaughtered as reference and the 25 remaining were allotted to five treatments (25.0, 37.5, 50.0, 62.5, and 75.0% of concentrate, in DM), in a completely randomized design, with five replicates. The slaughter weight was […]

This work was carried out to estimate the efficiency of metabolizable energy utilization (EMEU) for maintenance (km) and weight gain (kf) and the requirements of metabolizable energy (ME) and total digestible nutrients (TDN) of Nellore bulls. Thirty-five animals, averaging 330 kg and 20 months old, were used. After the period of adaptation (40 days), five animals were slaughtered as reference. The remaining animals were allotted, in a completely randomized design, to the treatments (12.5, 25.0, 37.5, 50.0, 62.5, and 75.0% […]

The objectives of this research were to evaluate the effects of two forage levels and two experimental periods on the microbial efficiency, ruminal ammonia concentration, the ruminal pH, duodenal nitrogen (N) flux and digestibility. Four Holstein steers, two years old and 340 kg of body weight, ruminally and duodenally cannulated, were used. The experimental design was a 4 x 4 latin square and animals received four treatments as folowing: two levels of forage (70 and 30%) and two experimental periods […]

Ten lactating cows (Holtein and H*Z crossbreed) after 55d calving, with average weigth of 540 kg alloted to a switch-back design, were used in order to evaluate the intake and apparent digestibilities of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), crude protein (CP), total carbohydrates (TC) and ether extract (EE), the pH and ruminal ammonia concentration and milk yield and composition. The animals were fed ad libitum with diets containing alfalfa hay (AH), coastcross bermudagrass hay (CCH), […]

Thirty Nellore bulls, averaging 330 kg and 20 months of age, were used to obtain the prediction equations of body chemical composition, from the chemical composition of section HH (Hankins and Howe). After a period of adaptation of 40 days, five animals were slaughtered as reference to estimate the empty body weight and the initial body composition of the 25 animals remaining, that were allotted to five treatments with different dietary levels of concentrate in the dry matter (25.0, 37.5, […]
