Fifteen male castrated sheep were used during a period of 22 days to determine the bromatological composition, intake and in vivo digestibility of diets with increasing levels (0, 50 and 100%) of “catingueira” hay (CH). A completely randomized experimental design with three treatment and five replications was used. “Catingueira” hay presented a 91.5% dry matter (DM), 93.89% organic matter (OM), 11.25% crude protein (CP), 4.31% ether extract (EE), 45.47% neutral detergent fiber (NDF), 37.08% acid detergent fiber (ADF), 8.39% hemicellulose […]

The chemical composition, crude protein fractions (A, B1, B2, B3 and C) and total carbohydrate fractions (A, B1, B2 and C), and respective degradation rate of B1, B2 and B3 protein fractions and A + B1 and B2 carbohydrate fractions of Tifton 85 bermudagrass hay from plants harvested with 28, 35, 42 and 56 days of regrowth, fertilized with 75 kg/ha/cut of N, were evaluated. The protein content of hays from 28 to 56 days of regrowth ranged from 17.58 […]

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the replacement of different corn grains (dry corn grain, reconstituted grain corn silage and high-moisture grain corn silage) on th epreformance of feedlot lambs. Sixty lambs (males and females) were randomly assigned to five treatments with twelve replicates and fed iIsoprotein and isoenergetic diets, in different treatments: T1= (RCGS) reconstituted grain corn silage; T2 = (DCG) dry corn grain; T3 = 50% RCGS + 50% DCG; T4 = (HMGCS) high-moisture grain corn silage; T5 […]

The microbial efficiency synthesis, the abomasum nitrogen compounds flow, the nitrogen compounds balance, the passage rate of ruminal digest, the ruminal ammonia concentration and ruminal pH in cattle fed diets containing Tifton 85 bermudagrass hay with different regrowth ages were evaluated. Four rumen and abomasum fistulated zebu cattle with average 340 kg LW were allotted in a 4×4 Latin square. All diets contained 60:40 forage to concentrate ratio. The forage was consisted in Tifton 85 bermudagrass hay with 28, 35, […]

The intake, total apparent digestibility and ruminal and intestinal apparent digestibilities of diets containing tifton 85 bermudagrass hays (Cynodon spp.) at different regrowth ages were evaluated with cattle. Four rumen and abomasum fistulated steers were allotted in a 4×4 Latin square. All diets consisted in 0 to 40 forage to concentrate ratio. The forage was consisted in Tifton 85 bermudagrass hay of 28, 35, 42 and 56 days of age, and the concentrate contained corn meal and mineral mix. The […]

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of the non-nitrogenous sources and the addition of Sacharomyces cerevisiae to sugarcane based diets on the intakes and the total and partial apparent digestibilities of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), total carbohydrates (TC), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and non- structural carbohydrates (NEC). The nitrogen balance and ruminal parameters were also evaluated. Four Holstein-Zebu young bulls rumen and abomasal fistulated were allotted to […]

This research was conducted to evaluate the energy and the fiber digestibility of diets containing urea, starea and cottonseed meal as nitrogen sources and corn silage as forage. Twenty-four lambs averaging 11 months old and initial 31 kg LW and total feces collection method were used. Dry matter intake was 64.1, 68.8 and 71.4 g /kg PV.75 /day and the energy, NDF and CF digestibilities were 63.0, 67.7 and 64.4%, 39.6, 55.7 and 50.0%, 47.0, 49.3 and 53.4%, for the […]

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effects of monensin on changes of fermentation pattern and resistance to intracellular potassium losses from ruminal bacteria of four cattle receiving high forage or high concentrate diets. The bacteria obtained by differential centrifugation were resuspended in a low potassium media. The intracellular potassium losses were measured after 10 minutes of incubation at increasing levels of monensin. The fermentation products were obtained after 24 hours of culture incubation with grass hay (100 […]

Fourty Aberdeen Angus steers were used to evaluate the effects of monensin, soybean oil and nitrogen source (soybean meal or urea) on feedlot performance of steers fed 90% concentrate diets. The monensin decreased dry matter intake of soybean meal supplemented diets and decreased the body weight at 56 and 112 days. The soybean oil decreased the average daily gain from days 57 to 112 and 1 to 112. While, monensin showed a decreased on the average daily gain in these […]

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of the forage to concentrate ratio on the weight gain and feed: gain, and to determine the apparent digestibility of the nutrients of 25 and 20 crossbred steers averaging 310 kg LW, respectively. Five full fed diets based on tanzaniagrass hay and concentrate, with different forage to concentrate ratio (85:15, 70:30, 55:45; 40:60; and 25:75) were used. The regression analysis of the coefficienties of apparent digestible dry matter, digestible organic […]
