A study was conducted in five locations to evaluate the silage potential of eight maize cultivars estimated by the rumen degradable dry matter yield (kg/ha). A significant interaction of genotype × environment was found for this characteristic, indicating a differential behavior of the varieties when environmental conditions changed. Although the variety BR HT2X had a high dry matter yield, it was the one which contributed most to the genotype × environment interaction. Nevertheless, it presented unpredictable behavior, thus it is […]

The objective of this work was to evaluate five control systems of native vegetation and the damages caused by cattle and sheep to trees of three eucalyptus populations. A split-plot experimental design in two randomized complete blocks was used. Treatments were a) three populations of Eucalyptus saligna Smith. (204, 400 and 816 plants/ha) as the main plots; b) five control systems of the native vegetation (without control, pre-emergent herbicide, pre and post-emergent herbicides, cattle grazing or sheep grazing) as subplots. […]

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the fermentative quality of sorghum silage of small, medium and high size with different stem+leafs/head proportions (100:00, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80, 00:100), by means of lab analysis. The whole plant was used as control. The hybrids were cultivated and ensiled at 104 days of age in PVC lab silos measuring 10-cm of diameter by 40-cm of length (three replications per treatment). Silos were opened 56 days after the ensilage. The contents of […]

This work was carried out to evaluate the agronomic characteristics (bedding, breakage, and productivity) and the chemical-bromatological of the green matter and silage of 19 cultivars of maize. The treatments were applied on 5 x 4-m plots arranged in a randomized block design with four replications. By the ocassion of sowing, doses corresponding to 500 kg/ha of the formula 4-14-8 (N-P2O5-K2O), were applied and at the 47 day of emergency, 60 kg/ha of N in broadcast. From the studied nineteen […]
