The objective of this work was to verify the effect of ammoniation on the contents of crude protein (CP), nitrogen retention (NR), dry matter (DM) content, preservation, cell wall constituents and in vitro dry matter disappearance (IVDMD) of cracked corn with high moisture (25%). Four levels of anhydrous ammonia (0, 1, 2 and 3%) and five aeration periods (0, 7, 14 21, and 28 days) were studied using a completely randomized design, in a split plot design. The contents of […]

This trial was carried out, from October 1993 until June 1995, to evaluate the chemical composition and dry matter digestibility of dwarf elephantgrass at plant heights of 80 and 120 cm under five nitrogen rates. The experimental design was completely randomized with a split split plot arrangement, with four replicates, where the clipping factors, and nitrogen doses (0, 25, 50, 100kg/ha•clipping, in the first year, and 0, 75 and 100 kg ha•clipping, in the second year, and plant heights (80 and […]

Sugarcane bagasse with 55% of dry matter (DM) was treated with five levels of urea (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10%) and 5% ground whole soybean as a source of urease both, on a DM basis. The material was stored in plastic bags for 97 days (8 kg/ 50 L plastic bag), and after plastic bag opening, samples were collected at three aeration period (2, 9, and 16 days). A completely randomized design with three replicates was used. There was […]

The objectives of this work were to estimate the dry matter intake by animals grazing three cultivars of Panicum maximum, and to relate it to live weight gain, grazing time (GT) and some structural and chemical characteristics of the pastures. The experimental design was the randomized block with three treatments and three replicates. The dry matter voluntary intake (DMVI) was estimated in four periods (May, September, November and February). Fecal output was measured using chromic oxide as an external marker. […]

Annual cold season forage species, Avena strigosa Schreb cv. IAPAR-61 Ibiporã, Lolium multiflorum Lam cv. Comum, Lotus subbiflorus Lag cv. El Rincón, Avena sativa L. cv. UPF-16, Trifolium subterraneum L. cv. Woogenellup, Trifolium resupinatum L. var. resupinatum cv. Kyambro, Secale cereale L. cv. BR-1, Trifolium vesiculosum Savi cv. EMBRAPA-28 Santa Tecla and Vicia angustifolia L. were evaluated using a randomized block design with three replicates, from 1994 to 1996, at Terras Baixas Experimental Station, EMBRAPA – Temperate Climate Research Center, […]

This study was carried out to evaluate the environmental effects on bull-frog (Rana catesbeiana Shaw, 1802) performance, raised in fiber glass cages installed inside acclimatized incubators. After an initial period of 15 days of adaptation, at constant temperature of 25.0ºC, the following experimental treatments were applied: temperatures of 23.0, 26.0, 29.0, 32.0 and 35.0ºC per 30 days for frogs with 100 g initial LW; 24.5, 26.0, 27.5, 29.0, 30.5, and 32.0ºC, also on 30 days, for frogs with 20 g […]

The objective of this work was to analyze the growth of three cultivars of Panicum maximum: Mombaça, Tanzânia and Vencedor grown in pots, under a transparent plastic cover. The pots were filled with 6 dm3 of redyellow latossol, clayish texture, with high organic matter content. The soil, after sifted, was limed and enriched with N and P, 150 mg/dm3 of each element. The seeds were seeded in the pots, in a total of 54. After thinning, five seedlings were left […]

In this research, the main histological changes that occurred in cultivars of elephant-grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach.) at three development stages were determined. The tissue degradation was evaluated after incubation in cattle ruminal fluid. The percentage of tissues presented in the stem, keel, leaf limbo and sheath were determined. The keel and the stem presented greater proportion of lignified tissues, while the leaf limbo presented higher amount of epidermal and non-lignified vascular tissues. The parenchymal tissue was found in minor proportion […]

Two experiments were carried out to evaluate the effects of three grazing frequencies (28, 38 and 48 days) on forage mass, dry matter (DM) accumulation rate and leaf:stem ratio in Tanzania and Mombaça, from September 1995 to May 1996 period. A split plot experimental design was used, with grazing frequency as main plots and period of the year as subplots. The forage mass per grazing was greater when the grazing frequency was small, however did not have an effect on […]

The animal performance and productivity in mixtures of annual temperate grasses under continuous grazing condition were evaluated. The mixtures MTR – Triticale (X Triticosecale Wittmack) plus ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.), MOR – Oat (Avena strigosa Schreb) plus ryegrass, MTOR – Triticale plus oat plus ryegrass, were used. The broadcasting sowing was realized at 04/21/95, being fertilized with 200 kg/ha (05-30-15), being the broadcasting fertilization of 175 kg/ha of nitrogen. The beginning of the grazing occurred at 06/10/95, and was extended […]
