The experiment was carried out to determine the supplements effects in the voluntary intake, digestibility, rumen pH and ammonia content of five 18 months old and 286 kg of live weight Nelore-Limousin young bulls, that received rumen and esophageal fistula. The treatments were: control, the animals received only mineral complex; and the others four were constituted by 1,49% of mineral complex, 1,99% of urea, and cracked corn, soybean meal and wheat bran different percentages. The treatments had 24% average crude […]

The research was carried out to evaluate the performance of kids submitting of different periods of suckling. Forty-two Alpine goats crossbred (21 males and 21 females) were assigned to three treatments with 14 replicates: T1 weaning at 56; T2 weaning at the 70 and T3 weaning at the 84 days old. The liquid diet (goat milk) was fed up to 35 days old, in two suckling and, after, the animals received the same quantity of goat milk at one suckling, […]

The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the performance of Charolais (CH) and ½Nellore (NE) ½CH (produced by CH cows), NE and ½CH ½NE (produced by NE cows) calves, mantained with the cows until weaning, on native pasture (NP) or winter (oat + italian rye grass) and summer (alexander grass) cultivated pasture (CP). Sixty straigthbred or crossbreds calves were used, and weighted at birth; 14; 42; 70; 98; 126; 154; 182 days; and at weaning. The cows milk yield […]

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the performance of Charolais (C), Nellore (N), CN and NC crossbred cows, kept on native pasture, supplemented with rice bran and weaned at 42 or 63 days, or not supplemented and weaned of 63 days. Cow age ranged from 3 to 12 years and was classified into four groups, first calf, young, adult and old cows. Average daily weight gain (ADG) from calving to 63 days postpartum was higher for supplemented cows. […]

The goal of this experiment was to evaluate if biostimulation may favourably change the reproductive performance of beef heifers on their first breeding season. For this purpose, 50 days before the artificial insemination (AI) period, 60 two-year-old heifers (Hereford x Nelore) were randomly distributed into two treatment groups: biostimulatated (BE) using a ruffian or not biostimulated (NE). The rates of cycling heifers before AI were 76 and 56% for BE e NE, respectively. Conception rates were 90 and 73% for […]

The objective of this work was to evaluate the production and composition of milk of beef cows of four genetic groups, including Charolais (C), Nellore (N), CN crossbreds daughters of C bulls, and NC crossbreds, daughters of N bulls, maintained on native pasture and submitted to different managements during pre-weaning: supplemented with rice bran (.7% of the body weight) and weaned at 42 or 63 days postpartum, or non supplemented and weaned at 63 days. The cow age varied from […]

The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of beef calves, from birth to weaning, produced by Charolais (C), Nellore (N), CN and NC crossbred cows, kept on native pasture, supplemented with rice bran and weaned at 42 or 63 days postpartum, or non supplemented and weaned at 63 days. Cow age ranged from 3 to 12 years, being classified as: first calf, young, adult and old cows. Calves weaned at 63 days of age, whose cows were […]

The relationship between milk somatic cells count (SCC) and milk yield has been the aim of countless researches in several countries; however, in Brazil, the literature related to this subject is scarce. Therefore, the objective of this study is to verify if the losses in milk yield due to SCC increase are proportional to the yield, or absolute (independent of it) and starting from which SCC, the losses become evident. For this study, 13.725 observations were used, collected monthly from […]

The objective of this experiment was to compare fat and cholesterol content, and fatty acids (FA) profile in Longissimus dorsi muscle of castrated and young bulls from Nellore (NE) and ½ Nellore x Sindi (NS) cattle and Mediterranean buffaloes. Eight animals (four castrated and four young bulls) per genetic group was used, with a total of 24 animals. A completely randomized experimental design in a 3 x 2 factorial arrangement (three genetic groups and two sexual conditions) was used. Animals […]

The acquired immunity by newborns calves is dependent of ingestion and absorption of adequate quantity of colostral immunoglobulins. Supplemental pooled colostrum can be an important procedure to correct miscarried management. This study was performed to evaluate the effect of additional colostrum of super immunological quality at 12 hours of live on total serum protein and immunoglobulin G concentration in newborn calves. Fourty five newborn calves, separated in two treatments: Treatment 1 – additional colostrum 12 hours after birth (10% body […]
