Different economic viability of pasture production systems to heifers grazing elephantgrass pasture in North Fluminense region wa analyzed. The economical analysis of three systems of growing fedlot dairy heifers grazing elephantgrass pasture was performed. In order to study the hazard that each system can present due to the oscillations of prices in the market, Monte Carlo simulation was used. The systems studied were: without supplementation (PS1), offer of 0.5% of the alive weight of concentrate (PS2), and alternate pasture of […]

The work was carried out to evaluate the voluntary intake, feed conversion and weight gain of bovines in feedlot, fed with elephantgrass silage (Penisetum purpereum, Schum.) with and without acipin associated with two protein sources, and to evaluate also the digestibility of dry matter of elephantgrass silage. The experimental feedlot was conducted during 167 days, with 28 steers, average 24 months old and initial average live weight of 310 kg. Four rations (T1: silage with acipin and urea; T2: silage […]

The objetive of this work was to evaluate the effect of the addition of different enzyme levels plus yeast in the cattle diet on apparent nutrient digestibility and cattle performance in feedlot. Is was used 18 crossbred bulls (Taurino x Zebuino) of milk dairy origin with average LW of 190±10 kg and age of 12 months and 27 steer of the Guzerá breed with LW and age of 325 kg and 27 months. The levels of enzyme plus yeast were […]

The goal of this study was to evaluate somatic cell count (SCC) in bulk tank milk samples in the milk delivered to the industry by dairy farmers; also, to allot of the bulk tank milk samples in somatic cell score (SCS) class. Bulk tank milk samples are routinely analyzed at the central laboratory of the Programa de Análise de Rebanhos Leiteiros do Paraná (PARLPR) of the Holstein Association, state of Paraná, Brazil. The present study was on a data set […]

The experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of the replacement of corn silage by up to 100% sugar cane in diets for milking cows. Studied characteristics were milk production and composition, body weight variation, intake of nutrients and economical viability of the diets. Twelve pure and crossbred Holstein milking cows, with potential yield of 5,000 to 7,000 kg of milk per lactation, were distributed in three 4×4 balanced latin square. The animals were maintained in individual stalls, where […]

This paper focuses on the analysis of goats leather to identify the physical and mechanical characteristics after toning. Sixteen male crossbred Alpine goats, with four animals from 180 days old by slaughter, were used. Slaughter intervals of 45 days were used. The skins were tanned and re-tanned, and from the breather the proofs from the dorsal, palette, ventral, hind and lateral regions, were taken, in the following directions: parallel and perpendicular to the tail-skull axis, so that the physic-mechanic studies […]

The carcass characteristics of bovine Indubrasil and crossbred F1 Holstein-Gir and Holstein-Guzera in the growing and finishing phases were evaluated. The carcass yield and the percentages of the basic cuts, carcass length, subcutaneous fat thickness, loin eye area, muscle, fat and bones percentages were also determined. The genetic groups showed no influence on hot carcass yield in relation to live weight and empty body weight, as well as in yields of the basic cuttings, the hindquarter, the forequarter and pistol […]

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the physical carcass composition, meat quality and cholesterol content in the Longissimus dorsi muscle of 5/8 Nellore – 3/8 Charolais steers feedlot finished to reach slaughter weight (SW) of 425, 467 and 510 kg. At the beginning of feedlot, average age, weight and body condition were, respectively, 660 days, 361 kg and 2.9 points. The diet offered, with roughage:concentrate ratio of 60:40, contained 10.25% of crude protein, 72.18% of total digestible nutrients […]

The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the carcass quantitative characteristics of feedlot finished steers, slaughtered at 13-14 months of age. Sixteen calves with nine months of age and average initial weight of 220 kg, being eight Aberdeen Angus – AA and eight Hereford – HE, were used. The animals were submitted to two levels of energy, 3.07 or 3.18 Mcal/kg of DM. The complete randomized experimental design was used, with a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement (two breeds […]

The objetive of the experiment was to evaluate the effect on animal performace of the addition of soybean hulls in substitution to sorghum grain in the concentrate fraction of the diet of feedlot finished steers from of 19 to 23 months of age. The treatments were the different levels of substitution of sorghum grain by soybean hulls: 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%. The diet with roughage: concentrate ratio of 60:40, contained 12% crude protein. Analyzing the data by regression, […]
