The Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia (RBZ) is a publication dedicated to the broad field of Animal Science. We publish high-quality, original scientific research that spans across diverse areas within the discipline. The scope of RBZ encompasses a wide range of topics, including aquaculture, biometeorology and animal welfare, forage crops and grasslands, animal and forage plants breeding and genetics, animal reproduction, ruminant and non-ruminant nutrition, meat science and muscle biology, precision livestock, and animal production systems and agribusiness.

The objective of this trial was to evaluate the effects of castration and slaughtering age on subjective and instrumental characteristics of meat from Corriedale lambs raised on native pasture. Sixty male lambs (30 castrated and 30 intact) slaughtered at 120, 210 and 360 days of age were used in this experiment. The Longissimus dorsi muscle was used for all meat evaluations and analysis. No significant castration ´ slaughtering age interaction was observed for the studied variables. A significant slaughtering age […]
The effect of two genetic groups, Aberdeen angus (AA) and 50% Nellore x 50% Aberdeen angus (NA), on temperament and meat quality of 40 steers averaging 2 years of age and 336.4 ± 29.39 kg of body weight was evaluated in this trial. Animals were assigned to treatments according to a completely randomized design. Temperament was evaluated through measurements of composite behavior score (BS) and flight time (FT). NA steers had higher BS than AA steers in this trial. Conversely, […]
Meat physical and chemical characteristics of Nellore (NE) and F1 Nellore x Sindi (NS) cattle and Mediterranean buffaloes (BM) castrated and entire were evaluated. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial arrangement 3 (genetic groups) x 2 (sexual conditions) with 24 plots. Animals were confined, received the same diet and were slaughtered at average weight of 437.5 kg. Meat samples were taken from Longissimus dorsi muscle between 12th and 13th ribs. Castrated and entire animals meat obtained higher […]
