Embryos collections of foaling mares (n=19) and non-lactating mares (n=18) were compared. No differences were observed between treatments on embryo recovery rates (57.9% and 50.0%); on embryo age (7.84 and 7.86 days); on duration of collection (8.63 and 9.00 minutes); on recovery of flushed medium from the uterus (1921 and 1934 mL); on the size of 7-day embryo (.42 mm and .44 mm); on the size of 8-day embryo (1.11 mm and 1.66 mm); on the quality grade of the embryos (3.81 and 3.55); on the interval from estrus to ovulation (6.44 and 5.66 days); on the follicle diameter at ovulation (38.76 mm and 37.55 mm) and on progesterone concentration in the flushing day. The number of services per cycle differed between the foal heat mares (2.5) and non-lactating mares (1.9).
