The effects of different dietary concentrate levels on the intakes of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), ether extract (EE), total carbohydrates (TC), total digestible nutrients (TDN), calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na) and potassium (K) were evaluated. The live weight (LWG) and the empty body gains (EBG), feed:gain ratio (F:G), carcass gain (CG) and the carcass productivity in relation to live weight (LWCP) and to empty body weight (EBW) were also evaluated. Twenty […]

The objective of this work was to study the effects of the concentrate levels of the diet on the microbial efficiency, ruminal ammonia and pH, and endogenous nitrogen (N) losses. Four Nellore bulls, fistulated in the rumen, abomasum and ileum, were full fed diets with 25.0, 37.5, 50.0, 62.5, and 75.0% of concentrate and allotted to a randomized block design. The ruminal ammonia concentrations and pH were measured in the ruminal fluid samples in collections made before and 2, 4, […]

The effects of five dietary concentrate levels on the body composition and on the net requirements of protein and energy for weight gain were evaluated. Twenty nine F1 Simental Nellore bulls, averaging 17 months of age and initial 354 kg LW, were used. Five animals were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment, as a reference, to estimate the initial empty body weight (EBW) and the initial concentrations of fat, protein and energy. The remaining animals were allotted to a […]

The effects of different dietary concentrate levels on the net requirements of Ca, P, Mg, Na and potassium (K) were studied. Twenty-nine F1 Simental x Nellore bulls, averaging 17 months of age and initial LW of 354 kg, were used. Five animals were slaughtered at the beginning of the experiment as a reference and the remainders were allotted to a completely randomized design, according to the different dietary concentrate levels: 25.0, 37.50, 50,0, 62.5, and 75.0%. The animals were were […]

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the performance of feedlot beef cattle fed diets supplemented with protein concentrate based on cottonseed meal (CSM) urea (UR) or starea (ST), using corn silage as forage. The feedlot period was 80 days. The diets were constituted maintaining the forage:concentrate proportion in the 63:37 level, with nearly 13% CP. No difference was observed in daily weight gain during the experimental period among the CSM, UR or ST treatments (1.14, 1.17, and 1.23 […]

The effects of genetic group and nutritional level on relative size of internal organs were studied. Sixty-three bulls, 16 Gyr, 16 Guzera, 15 Nellore and 16 Mocho de Tabapuã, averaging twenty four months of age, and initial live weight of 376.4, 357.6, 362.0, and 368.6 kg, respectively were used. The animals from each breed were randomly assigned to five groups. One group was immediately slaughtered (AB), three groups were full fed, in individual free stall, a diet containing 50% of […]

The objective of this work was to test two forms of hydrolysis of sugarcane bagasse (with [17 kgf/cm2] or without [4 kgf/cm2] fast decompression post-hydrolysis) and two levels of concentrate (25 and 45%. DM) on the performance and final body composition of growing heifers in a 112 day feedlot period. Twenty-four Nellore and 12 Canchim heifers were allotted to a randomized block design in a 2×2 factorial arrangement. The results demonstrated that the omission of decompression post hydrolysis and the […]

This work was conducted to evaluate the chemical body composition of sixty three young bulls, from the Gyr, Guzera, Mocho Tabapuã, Nellore breeds, in feedlot, averaging, respectively, 376.4, 357.6, 362.0, and 368.6 kg of initial live weight. The animals from each breed were divided into five categories: initial slaughter, full fed diet containing 50% concentrate until the individual slaughter weights of 405, 450 and 500 kg, respectively, and finally the category restricted feeding fed the same diet supplying levels of […]

This study evaluated the zootechnic and productive indexes, the production costs and the profit of four type B milk production systems in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, that use intensive pasture grazing as the forage source for the cattle during the summer. The four selected systems were: EMBRAPA/CPPSE system and two private production systems of São Carlos region, and one system located in São João da Boa Vista city. The criterion for the private systems selection was to have […]

The effect of different protein supplements on intake of sugar cane with urea by crossbred Holstein-Zebu heifers was evaluated during 12 weeks in the dry season. Eighteen heifers, averaging initial weight of 288 kg and age ranging from 15 to 22 months, were supplemented with soybean meal or concentrate with 28.7% crude protein. The amount of supplement fed was 1.0 kg/animal·day. Sugar cane with urea was fed ad libitum. The average intake of dry matter and neutral detergent fiber of […]
