An experiment was carried out to evaluate the dietary concentrate levels on the intake, total and partial apparent digestibilities of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), total carbohydrates (CHO), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and non structural carbohydrates (NEC). The effects of samples collections, realized on the day or the night, on the total and partial apparent digestibilities of DM and OM, were studied. Five F1 Simental x Nellore bulls fistulated in the rumen, abomasum […]

The amount of Ca, P, Mg, K and Na of the soils, and the levels of these elements and S of the forages predominant in the pastures and water, were studied in the North and Northwest regions of Rio de Janeiro State, in the dry (June-July) and rainy (December-January) seasons. Samples were collected from soil, forages and water from 12 different places of the regions, in predominant grazing areas, as showed by satellite photography and according to different soil characteristics. […]

ABSTRACT – A trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of five concentrate levels in the diet on the efficiency of microbial synthesis, balance of nitrogen compounds, ammonia concentrate and pH ruminal fluid. Five rumen, abomasum and ileum fistulated F1 Limousin x Nellore bulls were full fed diets containing 25.0, 37.5, 50.0, 62.5, and 75.0% of concentrate and allotted to a 5 x 5 latin square design. The ammonia concentrations and ruminal pH were determined in ruminal fluid samples collected […]

The objective of this trial was to evaluate the in vitro ammonia (N-NH3) production in fermentation of diets with different protein sources (dry yeast, urea and cottonseed meal) used for ruminants diets. The data relative to the N-NH3 production measured in the first hour of incubation, showed differences between diets with cottonseed meal and dry yeast, compared with diets with urea, with values of 7.52; 8.66; and 29.84 mg N-NH3/100 mL of ruminal fluid, respectively. The same pattern was observed […]

ABSTRACT – A trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of five dietary concentrate levels on the intake and total and partial apparent digestibility of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), total carbohydrates (CHO), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and non structural carbohydrates (NSC). Five rumen, abomasum and ileum fistulated F1 Limousin x Nellore bulls were full fed diets containing 25.0, 37.5, 50.0, 62.5, and 75.0% of concentrate and allotted to a 5 x 5 […]

ABSTRACT – The objective of this work was to compare the computerized monitoring of the in vitro gas production system with the in vivo and in situ methods. On the comparisons, corn silage with high/low dry matter contents, with/without inoculation, were used. The digestibility of silage with high dry matter (DM) content, with/without inoculation, did not present differences among the analyzed methods. When evaluated apart from the inoculation effect, that silage differed in vitro/gas and in situ methods; however in […]

The objective of this work was to test the computerized monitoring of the in vitro gas production system. This technique made easy the degradation studies of soluble and insoluble fractions of forages, determined by the gas production (CO2 e CH4) from microbial metabolism and measured by a pressure sensor. Several amounts of samples (50 to 110 mg of alfalfa hay) and other feedstuffs were tested. Also, the influence of the amount of ruminal liquid (2.0 or 3.0 mL), with or […]

ABSTRACT – The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of female and male Texel x Bergamacia, Texel x Santa Inês and straitbred Santa Inês. Thirty-six lambs were individually penned for a period of 50 days. The animals were fed elephant grass silage and the following diets: A= without coffee hulls (control), B = with untreated in nature coffee hulls and C = with urea in nature treated coffee hulls and ground soybean seed. The animals were slaughtered […]

ABSTRACT – The objective of this work was to evaluate the computerised monitoring of the in vitro gas production system and to compare with in vivo and in situ methods. In the degradation methods, corn silage samples with high/low dry matter (DM) contents, with/without inoculate, were used. Evaluating the silage degradation, by the gas production on the fermentation, the results of the extension of degradation (A+D) were 21.5; 22.6; 22.1 and 20.9 mL of gas/100 mg DM, without significant difference. […]

ABSTRACT – Ten bovines with abomasal cannulas were used to evaluate the coefficients of digestibility of diets prepared with different protein sources (dry yeast, urea and cottonseed meal). The coefficients of digestibility were obtained by the total feces collection technique and using the chromic oxide as an internal marker. In the diet with urea, an increase of digestibility coefficients for the most nutrients, when the chromic oxide technique was used, was obtaneid. The ethereal extract fraction did not show differences […]
