The Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia (RBZ) is a publication dedicated to the broad field of Animal Science. We publish high-quality, original scientific research that spans across diverse areas within the discipline. The scope of RBZ encompasses a wide range of topics, including aquaculture, biometeorology and animal welfare, forage crops and grasslands, animal and forage plants breeding and genetics, animal reproduction, ruminant and non-ruminant nutrition, meat science and muscle biology, precision livestock, and animal production systems and agribusiness.

Finite mixture models are helpful for uncovering heterogeneity due to hidden structure; for example, unknown major genes. The first part of this article gives examples and reviews quantitative genetics issues of continuous characters having a finite mixture of Gaussian components. The partition of variance in a mixture, the covariance between relatives under the supposition of an additive genetic model and the offspring-parent regression are derived. Formulae for assessing the effect of mass selection operating on a mixture are given. Expressions […]
Heritability Estimates and Genetic Correlation of Growth Characteristics in the Preweaning Period and Scrotal Circumference Measurement at Yearling for Angus-Nelore Beef Cattle
The data utilized in this work were originated from 53.938 pure and crossbred (Angus x Nelore), collected in different regions of Brazil and Argentina born from 1987 to 1998 were analyzed. The objectives of this work were to verity the heritabilities and correlation among the growing and scrotal circumference traits. The variables analyzed were the average daily gain from birth to weaning (ADGBW), days to reach 160 kg from birth to weaning (D160), weaning weight (WW) and scrotal circumference at […]
The objective of this work was to estimate the genetic trends for milk and fat yields of Holstein Dairy Cattle, in Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The statistical analyses were made by means of mixed models, using restricted maximum likelihood and animal model. The fixed effects studied were: herd-year-season at calving and linear and quadratic effect of age at calving besides the animal and residual random effects. The genetic trends were obtained by regression of the breeding value on the year […]
