The Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia (RBZ) is a publication dedicated to the broad field of Animal Science. We publish high-quality, original scientific research that spans across diverse areas within the discipline. The scope of RBZ encompasses a wide range of topics, including aquaculture, biometeorology and animal welfare, forage crops and grasslands, animal and forage plants breeding and genetics, animal reproduction, ruminant and non-ruminant nutrition, meat science and muscle biology, precision livestock, and animal production systems and agribusiness.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the practice of consecutive cuts in the production and quality of Paspalum guenoarum seeds of the “Azulão” ecotype. The experimental design used was in completely randomized blocks with four replications. The treatment included three cuts in succession: zero cut, one cut, two cuts, and three cuts. The variables were: number of total tillers/plant; number of vegetative tillers/plant; number of reproductive tillers/plant; percentage of reproductive tillers; number of racemes/inflorescence; weight of thousand seeds; […]

With the objective of evaluating the influence of seed coating on seed germination and seedling development under increased saline concentrations, naked and loose seeds of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.), “common” cultivar, were exposed to six NaCl concentrations (0, 48, 66, 97, 129 and 145 mM). The basic material for coating was wood bran. Emergence, abnormal seedlings, dormant seeds and percentages of dead seeds, as well as speed emergence index, length of the aerial part and the root and fresh weight […]

Leucaena leucocephala seeds were allotted to chemical and mechanical scarification and hot water treatment, to overcome the seed-coat dormancy and to evaluate seedling development, according to a complete randomized design. There was decrease in germination for the control (32.7%) and an increase when seeds were immersed in water with 80ºC during 5 and 15 minutes, and concentrate H2SO4 during 10, 15 and 20 minutes. The emergency rate index was better in the treatment with water 80ºC during 5 minutes and […]
