The objective of this work was to evaluate the average daily dry matter intake (DMI), DMI per 100 kg of live weight (DMIP), DMI per unit of metabolic weight (DMIM), feed: gain (FG) and average daily weight gain (ADG) of beef calves fed with different levels of crude protein in the diet. Forty-seven Braford intact male calves, 66 days old and 76.4 kg of live weight were used. Animals were full fed with oat silage and concentrate (50/50), with 13; […]

This paper evaluated the parameters of Gompertz nonlinear function to describe Guzera male and female growth curve, and their crossbreds (3/4Guzera – 1/4Brown Swiss, 1/2Nellore – 1/4Brown Swiss – 1/4Guzera, 1/2Brown Swiss – 1/2Guzera, 1/2Chianina – 1/4Brown Swiss – 1/4Guzera, 1/2Caracu – 1/2Guzera, 1/2Caracu – 1/4Brown Swiss – 1/4Guzera) submitted to three levels of supplementation: without supplementation, supplementation only during the dry season, and year-round supplementation. There were significant interactions between supplementation and breed, and breed and sex on mature […]

This work was carried out to study the replacement levels of corn by triticale in feedlot Nellore heifers. Fifty-six Nellore heifers, 18 months of age and with an initial LW 212 kg were allotted to a completely randomized experimental design, with four corn replacement levels (0, 33, 66 and 100%) by triticale and seven replications. There were no effects of corn replacement levels on the final live weight, average daily gain, intakes of dry matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, […]

Forty five crossbreed F1 Limousin x Nellore bulls, averaging 14 months of age and initial body weight of 330 kg, were used to evaluate the effects of different levels of concentrate (25.0, 37.5, 50.0, 62.5, and 75.0%) and two diet balance methods (one, almost isoprotein and the second, changing protein as energy of the diet change) on carcass yield in relation to live weight (CYLW) and empty body weight (CYEBW), and basic cut yields: spare ribs, whole acem, whole shoulder, […]

Eight rumen fistulated rams were delineated in two Latin Squares in four periods of 35 days each and four treatments consisted of increasing levels of sugar cane (SC) in substitution to the corn silage (CS): A) 100% CS, B) 67% CS and 33% SC, C) 33% CS and 67% SC and D) 100% SC, to evaluate the population of ciliate protozoa in the rumen. The total concentrations of rumen ciliate protozoa and of Entodinium decreased and the values of pH […]

The orange peel silage additives, with or without the additives microbial enzymatic additive, formic acid and acetic acid, was evaluated to determine the apparent digestibility of the dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), ether extract (EE) and nonstructural carbohydrates (NSC). The orange peel was ensiled for 70 days, in concrete tubes with capacity for 700 kg, in a trial with male sheep, housed in metabolic cages. The diet constituted […]

The orange peel with enzymatic microbial additive, formic or acetic acids was ensiled for 70 days, in concrete tubes with 700 kg of volume capacity, was evaluated by rumen fermentation parameters in a experimental trial using males sheep, housed in metabolic cages. The used diet was oat hay (70%) and orange silage (30%) on DM base. The ruminal fluid was collected with esophageal tube at 2, 5 and 8 hours after, and before feeding that was taken as zero time […]

Four buffaloes and four cattle rumen fistulated were used with the objective to study the effects of different levels of neutral detergent fiber in the diet on the digestion characteristics. The In situ degradations of dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of the coastcross hay and wheat meal, DM of the corn ground and soybean meal were evaluated. The digestibilities of DM, crude protein and NDF of the diets were also evaluated using a Cr2O3 as a marker. The […]

Forty five crossbreed F1 Limousin x Nellore young bulls, averaging 14 months of age and initial 330 kg LW, were used to evaluate the effects of different concentrate levels (25.0, 37.5, 50.0, 62.5 and 75.0% as DM basis) and two diet balance methods (one, almost isoprotein and the second, changing protein as energy of the diet change) on the intakes of dry matter (DMI) and neutral detergent fiber (NDFI), feed: gain ratio (FG), daily gains of live weight (ALWDG) empty […]

The effects of the replacement of corn silage by orange peel silage were studied on the intake of nutrients, production and quality of the milk of Holstein dairy cows. A 4 x 4 Latin square design with four replacement levels (0, 25, 50 or 75% DM) of corn silage by orange peel with forage to concentrate ratio of 50:50 were used. The replacement levels did not affect the percentage of milk fat and milk protein, however the nutrient intake and […]
