Forty-eight crossbreed beef cattle were used to evaluate four commercial mineral supplements: Treatment A- Salt + protein without urea (20% crude protein); B – salt + protein with urea (52,5 % crude protein), C) mineralized salt; D) mineralized salt with urea (91% crude protein). The animals were distributed into 24 plots of Braquiaria decubens grass, with supplementation of (10.5 kg/an/day) of sugar cane, during 112 days, with 28 days of adaptation and 84 days of data collection. The animals were […]

Fifty gilts crossbreed (Hampshire, Belgium Landrace, Pietran), with initial average weight of 60.23±0.49 kg and high genetic potential for lean meat deposition, were used to evaluate different lysine levels. A randomized blocks design, with five treatments, five replicates and two animals per experimental unit, was used. The treatments corresponded to a basal diet with 15.8% crude protein, supplemented with five levels of HCl-L-Lisine, resulting in diets with 0.75, 0.85, 0.95, 1.05, and 1.15% of lysine. There was no effect of […]

ABSTRACT – Ten bovines with abomasal cannulas were used to evaluate the coefficients of digestibility of diets prepared with different protein sources (dry yeast, urea and cottonseed meal). The coefficients of digestibility were obtained by the total feces collection technique and using the chromic oxide as an internal marker. In the diet with urea, an increase of digestibility coefficients for the most nutrients, when the chromic oxide technique was used, was obtaneid. The ethereal extract fraction did not show differences […]

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the animal productivity and economic return of the use of urea or ammonium sulfate for fertilization of oat (Avena strigosa Schreb) plus ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) pasture. The pasture was established on 04/21/94 and the grazing period occured from 06/05 to 11/06/94. The continuous grazing method with variable stocking rate was used. The animals used were beef heifers, with 10 months of age. The amount of nitrogen used was 200 kg/ha, subdivided […]

The objective of this trial was to evaluate the in vitro ammonia (N-NH3) production in fermentation of diets with different protein sources (dry yeast, urea and cottonseed meal) used for ruminants diets. The data relative to the N-NH3 production measured in the first hour of incubation, showed differences between diets with cottonseed meal and dry yeast, compared with diets with urea, with values of 7.52; 8.66; and 29.84 mg N-NH3/100 mL of ruminal fluid, respectively. The same pattern was observed […]

Sugarcane bagasse with 55% of dry matter (DM) was treated with five levels of urea (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10%) and 5% ground whole soybean as a source of urease both, on a DM basis. The material was stored in plastic bags for 97 days (8 kg/ 50 L plastic bag), and after plastic bag opening, samples were collected at three aeration period (2, 9, and 16 days). A completely randomized design with three replicates was used. There was […]

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the addition of crescent levels of urea, with or without urease, on sugarcane bagasse nutritive value. The experimental design was a completely randomized design in a factorial arrangement (4 x 2) + 1 (control), with four replicates. The evaluated factors were urea levels (2.0, 4.0, 6.0 and 8.0% DM), urease levels (presence – 20% of urea fresh matter – and absence) and a control treatment (0.0% urea and without […]

The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance, ponderal development of heifers fed sugar cane based diets, supplemented with non protein nitrogen (NPN) sources (urea or broiler litter, in replacement of urea) and, or, probiotics addition (without probiotic, with yeast or with ruminal microbiota). Cost and gross margin of the use of these diets were also evaluated. Twenty-four heifers, with age and average initial weight of 14 months and 247 kg LW, respectively, were maintained in individual stalls […]

This study was conducted to evaluate the corn (Zea mays L.) AG 1051 and the sorghums (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) AG 2006 and BR 303, for silage production, and the effect of substitution of soybean meal by urea (0,50 and 100%) in the concentrated diets for feedlot cattle. The silages were used in two experiments and the animals were alloted to a completely experimental design. In the first, 72 F1 crossbred Brown Swiss x Nellore bulls, with 20 months of […]

The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the performance of feedlot beef cattle fed diets supplemented with protein concentrate based on cottonseed meal (CSM) urea (UR) or starea (ST), using corn silage as forage. The feedlot period was 80 days. The diets were constituted maintaining the forage:concentrate proportion in the 63:37 level, with nearly 13% CP. No difference was observed in daily weight gain during the experimental period among the CSM, UR or ST treatments (1.14, 1.17, and 1.23 […]
