The Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia (RBZ) is a publication dedicated to the broad field of Animal Science. We publish high-quality, original scientific research that spans across diverse areas within the discipline. The scope of RBZ encompasses a wide range of topics, including aquaculture, biometeorology and animal welfare, forage crops and grasslands, animal and forage plants breeding and genetics, animal reproduction, ruminant and non-ruminant nutrition, meat science and muscle biology, precision livestock, and animal production systems and agribusiness.

The objective of this study was to evaluate associations between average lactation somatic cell counts (SCC) and herd management practices in an arid climate. A total of 38,530 average lactation SCC records for 10,216 Holstein cows gathered on 25 dairy farms from January 2009 to October 2012 in Isfahan (Iran) were analyzed. Average lactation SCC (cells × 1,000) was 250.79 ranging from 90.31 to 483.23 cells/mL across investigated farms. Herd-level management factors associated with average lactation SCC were determined separately […]

Data consisting of 172,304 test-day records of first lactation Holstein cows were used to evaluate non-genetic effects on Somatic Cell Count (SCC) and Somatic Cell Score (SCS). Milk samples were collected in Holstein herds supervised by the Dairy Herd Analysis Program, at Paraná State, Brazil, between January 1983 and December 1998. The statistical models included the fixed effects of region (Reg), number of milkings (NM), days in milk (DIM), age of cow (AC), month of test-day (MTD), days of storaging […]

The goal of this study was to evaluate somatic cell count (SCC) in bulk tank milk samples in the milk delivered to the industry by dairy farmers; also, to allot of the bulk tank milk samples in somatic cell score (SCS) class. Bulk tank milk samples are routinely analyzed at the central laboratory of the Programa de Análise de Rebanhos Leiteiros do Paraná (PARLPR) of the Holstein Association, state of Paraná, Brazil. The present study was on a data set […]
