The Revista Brasileira de Zootecnia (RBZ) is a publication dedicated to the broad field of Animal Science. We publish high-quality, original scientific research that spans across diverse areas within the discipline. The scope of RBZ encompasses a wide range of topics, including aquaculture, biometeorology and animal welfare, forage crops and grasslands, animal and forage plants breeding and genetics, animal reproduction, ruminant and non-ruminant nutrition, meat science and muscle biology, precision livestock, and animal production systems and agribusiness.

This work had as objective to evaluate the physical-mechanic characteristics of the leather from one genotype of sheep and three genotypes of goat. Forty three tanned chrome skins were used: 9 Santa Inês sheep, 12 ½ Anglo Nubiano, 16 ½ Boer, all crossbed with animals of non-defined breeds (NDB) and six NBD native goats. In the pre-experimental period, all animals were weaned at 90 days of age approximately and raised under semi-intensive production systems using cultivate pasture. The experimental phase […]
The objectives of this trial were to analyze the skin histology and to evaluate the influence of tanning technique and the direction removal of samples on skin quality of silver-plated carp (Hypophtalmichthys molitrix). Twenty-three fishes were sacrificed and the skin was removed for tanning. Samples of three fishes were settled in formol 10% and, after inclusion in paraffin, the samples were cut with approximately 5 mm of thickness and colored by the hematoxylin-eosin technique (HE). After skin tanning, the samples […]
This work aimed to evaluate the physical-mechanic characteristics of crossed sheep leathers from hairy tropical crioula ewes mated with Texel wooly breed (TE) and Santa Inês (SI) hair tropical breed rams. Twenty two skin were evaluated from male sheep slaughtered at average of 240 days of age and 21.9 ± 4.4 and 20.9 ± 3.4 body live weight, respectively for TE and SI. After skinning, pelts were weighed, conserved in brine and salted and classified by quality before the chromium-tanned. […]
The objective of the study was establishing the anatomical-structural differences between the skin of non-wool sheep of the Morada Nova breed and wool-on sheep of the Polwarth or Ideal breeds and their relations to the physical-mechanical characteristics of their leather after tanning. Ten animals of both breeds were used, with five animals of approximately one and four years of age of each breed. The animals were slaughtered, and immediately after skinning, samples were taken viewing the microtomy of the skin […]
